Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This is a starting audit role working on annual audits, reviews and compilations across a variety of clients. Why audit rather than another accounting path?

What they are checking: Whether they have a real reason for choosing audit, because the early years are demanding and motivation helps people stay and grow.

How do you ask a client for a document they have already been asked for twice?

What they are checking: Whether they can follow up firmly yet respectfully, because getting documents on time keeps the audit moving without souring the relationship.

The posting names working with client management and staff at all levels. How do you talk to a controller who has been doing this for twenty years?

What they are checking: Whether they can earn respect from experienced client staff by being prepared and curious, even as the most junior person present.

The role names identifying and resolving client issues with your audit team. Tell me about working out a problem with a group rather than alone.

What they are checking: Whether they solve issues collaboratively, because audits depend on teams sharing information and agreeing on how to handle problems.

What would you do

The posting says planning, executing and wrapping up engagements may all be happening at once. How do you keep several going without dropping something?

What they are checking: The stated concurrency, which is the real difficulty of the first year

You find something during testing that does not look right. What do you do next?

What they are checking: Escalation instinct as the most junior person in the room

This starts in Fall 2027, in Chicago, with travel to client sites and additional hours as needed. Does that picture work for you, and what do you want to know about it?

What they are checking: Whether they accept the start date, travel and busy-season hours, so expectations about the first year are clear on both sides.

About the work

Walk me through what happens on an audit from planning to the report.

What they are checking: Whether they understand the basic audit cycle, which shows they know what work they are actually signing up for.

You'd participate in all aspects of financial statement preparation. Which statement do you find hardest, and why?

What they are checking: Whether they can honestly name a weak area, because good auditors know their limits and ask for help early.

This position requires meeting the education requirement for certified public accountant certification. Where are you on that, and what is your timeline for the exam?

What they are checking: Whether they meet the education requirement and have a realistic exam plan, because licensure is central to advancing in audit.
