Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about mentoring an intern or first-year staff member. What did they need that you did not expect?

What they are checking: Supervision judgment from real experience.

Crowe posted Audit Senior Associate roles in Commercial Services, Financial Services and Public Sector at the same time. Why this vertical for you?

What they are checking: Self-placement across the three senior associate roles posted together.

This is a Chicago seat, hybrid or onsite, full-time or seasonal, asking for two or more years of public accounting external audit experience and meeting the education requirement for a certified public accountant license. What do you want to know about the client mix and busy season hours?

What they are checking: Whether they ask the plain questions about clients and hours.

What would you do

Cannabis clients carry regulatory and banking constraints most companies do not. What would you want to understand before your first engagement in that space?

What they are checking: Awareness of an unusual vertical Crowe names explicitly.

You are wrapping one engagement while planning another and executing a third. How do you keep them from bleeding into each other?

What they are checking: The concurrent engagement load this posting warns about.

You find an issue during fieldwork that the client's controller does not want in the report. What do you do?

What they are checking: Professional skepticism under relationship pressure.

About the work

This vertical spans food and commodities, metals, supply chain, cannabis, healthcare and technology media and telecommunications. What makes auditing a commodities business different from auditing a software company?

What they are checking: Whether they grasp how differently revenue and inventory behave across these industries.

Inventory valuation in a metals or commodities business can move a lot. How do you approach auditing it?

What they are checking: A specific high-risk area in this posting's client base.

Walk me through how you would test revenue recognition at a client with long-term contracts.

What they are checking: Revenue testing where judgment drives the answer.

How do you use audit software and databases well rather than just completing the steps in them?

What they are checking: Tool use with judgment, which the posting names.
