Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
This role partners with leaders globally on organizational design, team effectiveness and culture. Walk me through an organizational change you helped a leader make.
What they are checking: Whether they have actually helped a leader change how an organization works, not just delivered a training session or a survey.
You'd facilitate live and virtual workshops for senior in-line and matrix teams. How do you run a workshop with executives who would rather be elsewhere?
What they are checking: Whether they can hold the attention of senior leaders who are busy and skeptical, which is most of the facilitation in this role.
You'd advise, influence and coach senior leaders and human resources partners. How do you coach a leader who did not ask to be coached?
What they are checking: Whether they can earn the trust of a senior leader who did not ask for help, which is the daily reality of internal consulting.
What would you do
You'd assess root causes and deliver insights that inform recommendations. How do you diagnose a team that is underperforming without accepting the leader's own account of it?
What they are checking: Whether they diagnose problems independently instead of accepting the leader's own story, since leaders are often part of the problem.
You'd help leaders define an organizational strategy that aligns a team on one path. What do you do when the leadership team quietly disagrees?
What they are checking: Whether they bring hidden disagreement into the open, because a leadership team that only seems aligned will fail to execute later.
The posting names leveraging deep familiarity with the company's culture to make recommendations land. How would you learn a culture well enough to do that?
What they are checking: Whether they can learn an unfamiliar culture quickly and deliberately, since recommendations that ignore the culture rarely get adopted.
A leader wants a reorganization and you think the problem is something else. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they will challenge a leader's chosen solution when the real problem lies elsewhere, instead of simply delivering what was asked.
This is based at North Chicago working across functions globally. What would you want to know about the work in flight and the travel before you took it?
What they are checking: Whether they ask about the current workload and travel before accepting a global role, which shows realistic and grounded judgment.
About the work
You'd recommend organizational design changes. What makes a structure work rather than just look tidy on a chart?
What they are checking: Whether they understand that good structure is about decisions and accountability, not boxes on an org chart that look neat.
How do you know whether an organizational intervention worked?
What they are checking: Whether they define success before starting and measure it honestly afterward, even when the outcomes are about people and behavior.
