Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell us about a capstone or project-based course you have taught or helped run. What did students actually produce?

What they are checking: Whether they can run the kind of open, realistic project work a construction management capstone depends on.

Describe your own time working in the construction industry. How does it show up in the way you teach?

What they are checking: Whether real field experience backs their teaching, which matters a lot in an applied program like this one.

What would your research or scholarship look like at a teaching-focused university like Platteville?

What they are checking: Whether they have a realistic tenure plan that fits a teaching-heavy load and can involve undergraduates.

What would you do

A student in your safety class says the rules slow crews down and nobody follows them in the real world. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they can take on field cynicism honestly and still build a real safety mindset in future supervisors.

How would you build relationships with regional contractors so students get site visits, internships and guest speakers?

What they are checking: Whether they see industry ties as part of the job, since applied programs live or die on employer connections.

How do you grade a team project fairly when one student carried most of the work?

What they are checking: Whether they have a real system for individual accountability inside group work, not just good intentions.

You start in January, mid-year. How would you get up to speed on courses already in progress and the department's curriculum?

What they are checking: Whether they can plan a mid-year start without leaving students or colleagues to absorb the disruption.

About the work

Walk us through how you would teach an introductory construction safety course to students who have never been on a jobsite.

What they are checking: Whether they can make OSHA rules and hazard awareness feel concrete to beginners rather than a list to memorize.

The posting mentions hands-on learning with emerging construction technologies. Which technologies would you bring into the classroom first, and why those?

What they are checking: Whether their idea of emerging tech is grounded in what contractors actually use, like BIM, drones or scheduling software.

How would you explain the difference between a critical path schedule and a resource-loaded schedule to a sophomore?

What they are checking: Core scheduling knowledge and the ability to break it down for students at an early level.
