Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell us about your research on education and the environment. What is the core question driving it?

What they are checking: Whether they have a clear, original agenda that fits the RISE Earth focus rather than a loose collection of projects.

What courses could you teach in Educational Policy Studies, and how would you design one for undergraduates with no background in your area?

What they are checking: Teaching range and whether they can make specialized work accessible to the department's students.

Tell us about a time a collaboration across disciplines got difficult. How did you keep it moving?

What they are checking: Ability to work across fields, which this cross-campus environmental initiative depends on.

What is the next project after your current one, and why does it follow?

What they are checking: Whether their research pipeline has a logic that will sustain them through tenure review.

What would you do

Where do you see external funding for this work coming from in your first five years?

What they are checking: Whether they have a realistic funding plan, since the posting expects research that can attract external dollars.

How might climate change or climate policy show up in educational outcomes in a place like rural Wisconsin?

What they are checking: Whether they can connect big environmental questions to concrete local settings and data.

How would you mentor a doctoral student who wants to do this kind of work but has weak quantitative training?

What they are checking: Whether they can build up graduate students rather than only selecting already-strong ones.

Your work spans education, the environment and human systems. Which journals and audiences are you writing for, and how does that count toward tenure here?

What they are checking: Whether they understand how interdisciplinary publishing will be read by a tenure committee in an education policy department.

About the work

How do you build inequality into your research design rather than adding it at the end as a subgroup analysis?

What they are checking: Whether attention to inequality is central to their methods, which the posting explicitly asks for.

Walk us through the quantitative methods in your strongest paper and why you chose them over alternatives.

What they are checking: Depth with advanced or mixed methods and whether they can defend design choices to a skeptical audience.
