Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

As Assistant Manager at LOFT, you coach associates to build genuine customer connections. Tell me about someone you coached who got noticeably better.

What they are checking: Whether they can develop people in a concrete way, which is the main lever an assistant manager has on store results.

What does it look like to lead from the sales floor rather than the back room?

What they are checking: Whether they model the brand's customer behaviors themselves, which is how standards actually spread to a team.

How do you create an inclusive store where every associate feels welcome and part of the team?

What they are checking: Whether they have concrete habits for belonging, since the posting names inclusion as a leadership duty.

Tell me about a time you disagreed with your manager. How did you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can push back respectfully and then support the decision, which keeps a leadership team united.

What would you do

Your store at River Forest misses its sales goal three days in a row. What do you look at and what do you change?

What they are checking: Whether they can read basic store numbers like traffic and conversion and turn them into a plan for the floor.

An associate is great with customers but always late. How do you address it?

What they are checking: Whether they can hold someone accountable fairly without losing a strong seller, a common test for new managers.

The Store Manager is off and a customer asks for a refund outside policy. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can make a sound judgment call alone, balancing customer goodwill with policy and loss.

How would you plan the day when you open with a new floor set to finish and two associates scheduled?

What they are checking: Whether they can prioritize operations while keeping customers served, the daily juggle of store leadership.

About the work

LOFT dresses everyday optimists for work and life. How would you style a customer who needs pieces that go from the office to the weekend?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the versatility at the heart of the brand and can turn it into real outfit advice.

What omnichannel tools would you want your team to use, and how would you get them comfortable with them?

What they are checking: Whether they see technology as part of service and can train others to use it so sales are not lost.

What does a great customer experience at LOFT look like from start to finish?

What they are checking: Whether they can describe a clear service standard they would hold their team to, not a vague idea of being nice.
