Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a content program you built where you had to choose fewer platforms rather than more.

What they are checking: Focus, on a job where one person owns every channel.

This is one person owning strategy, editorial calendar, production, publishing and analytics. What would you drop first if the workload did not fit?

What they are checking: Honest prioritization, and whether they have thought about the scope realistically.

What would you do

You would work with freelance writers and an outside search agency. How do you brief a freelancer so the first draft is usable?

What they are checking: Whether they can direct outside contributors, which is most of the content output here.

You would interview students and donors and write articles from those conversations. What do you do when the interview does not give you a story?

What they are checking: Interviewing craft and honesty about weak material.

A post gets a critical comment from a prospective student on a public channel. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Community management judgment, and whether they engage or escalate.

You would publish to WordPress sites and coordinate with agencies on website and design requests. Where does your own work stop and an agency's start?

What they are checking: Scoping and knowing what they should keep in house.

About the work

The Graham School serves lifelong learners rather than traditional undergraduates. How would that change the content you write and where you put it?

What they are checking: Audience thinking — adult learners are a different market from eighteen-year-olds.

You would establish a content style guide for the Graham School that still aligns with the wider UChicago brand. How do you carve out a distinct voice without breaking the parent brand?

What they are checking: Brand judgment inside a large institution with its own rules.

Part of this is refreshing ageing blog content to hold organic search rankings. How do you decide which old posts are worth updating and which should go?

What they are checking: Real search engine optimization judgment rather than generic advice.

The posting asks you to set key performance indicators for social campaigns and report on them. Which numbers actually tell you a campaign worked for a school selling courses?

What they are checking: Whether they measure enrollment intent or settle for engagement vanity metrics.
