Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell us about your AI research and how it would apply to veterinary medicine or comparative biomedical sciences.

What they are checking: Whether they have a research agenda that genuinely connects AI to animal and comparative health rather than just relabeling general work.

Tell us about a collaboration across departments that you led or helped hold together.

What they are checking: Evidence they can do the interdisciplinary work the RISE-AI initiative is built on.

How would you mentor a graduate student who is strong in biology but new to machine learning?

What they are checking: Mentoring ability with the mixed backgrounds this position will attract.

What would you do

How would you build a working relationship with clinicians who are busy and skeptical about AI tools?

What they are checking: Ability to collaborate across a professional school where the people with the data are not computer scientists.

What does One Health mean to you, and where could AI make a difference across animal, human and environmental health?

What they are checking: Whether they can connect their work to the school's existing strengths the posting names.

How would you teach AI concepts to veterinary students who have little programming background?

What they are checking: Whether they can make AI useful and understandable for future practitioners, not just graduate students.

About the work

Veterinary data is often small, messy and spread across species. How would you build models that still work?

What they are checking: Practical machine learning skill with limited, heterogeneous data, which is the real constraint in veterinary settings.

How would you validate an imaging or diagnostic model before it is used on real patients in the teaching hospital?

What they are checking: Whether they understand clinical validation, bias across breeds or species, and the risk of deploying a weak model.

Which funding agencies would you target, and how would you pitch AI in veterinary medicine to them?

What they are checking: Realistic grant strategy for a field that crosses NIH, NSF and USDA interests.

How do you think about data privacy and ownership when using client and patient records from a veterinary hospital?

What they are checking: Awareness of data governance, consent and client trust, which shape what research is possible.
