Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This senior seat leads technically complex hydraulic applications from concept through implementation and validation. Walk me through one you led and where it nearly went wrong.

What they are checking: Depth of ownership across a full application, not just a design stage.

The role expects you to mentor and develop junior applications engineers without direct supervisory responsibility. How do you build someone's judgment rather than just answering their questions?

What they are checking: The specific addition this level makes over the base role.

You would work across Design Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing and Sales. Tell me about a technical problem you solved that required three of those functions to agree.

What they are checking: Cross-functional resolution at a level where nobody reports to them.

This asks for five or more years in hydraulics or fluid power, sits in Lincolnshire, and states indefinite U.S. work authorization only with no future sponsorship. It is posted alongside a non-senior version of the same role. Why this seat rather than that one?

What they are checking: That they noticed the sibling posting and can justify the level they are targeting.

What would you do

You would design custom hydraulic integrated circuits to customer specification. How do you handle a specification that is internally inconsistent?

What they are checking: Engineering judgment when the customer's own requirements conflict.

A customer reports a field failure and blames the circuit you designed. Walk me through your root cause investigation.

What they are checking: Structured failure analysis and composure when the blame arrives first.

Sales wants to commit to a performance number you are not confident the product can hit. What do you do?

What they are checking: Holding a technical line against commercial pressure.

About the work

How do you read a customer's operating conditions and work out which of them will actually drive the design?

What they are checking: Requirements interrogation rather than accepting a spec sheet.

How do you decide when testing has told you enough to recommend a solution to a customer?

What they are checking: Where they stop, which separates rigor from paralysis.

What industry or technology change in fluid power should we be paying attention to right now?

What they are checking: Whether they keep current, which the posting names as a duty.
