Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This role is more about supporting and configuring business applications than building new software. What appeals to you about that?

What they are checking: Whether they actually want support work or are hoping to escape it for greenfield development.

Tell me about a time you solved a problem by changing configuration instead of writing code.

What they are checking: Whether they reach for the simplest fix that is supportable rather than custom code by default.

Describe a time you had to explain a technical limitation to a frustrated user.

What they are checking: Whether they can say no or not yet in plain language while keeping the relationship intact.

Tell me about a time you found a way to get more value out of an application the business already owned.

What they are checking: Whether they think about maximizing existing tools before asking the company to buy or build something new.

What would you do

A business stakeholder asks for a change that would make their team's job easier but cause extra work for another department. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they see the whole process and bring the right people together before configuring around one group.

You have three tickets open: a production issue for one plant, a report request from finance, and a small enhancement your manager wants. Walk me through your day.

What they are checking: Whether they triage by business impact and communicate timelines to the people waiting.

About the work

A user reports that an application has been slow all morning, but nobody else has complained. How do you start?

What they are checking: Whether they troubleshoot methodically by narrowing scope before changing anything in production.

Data stopped flowing between two systems overnight. How would you figure out which side broke?

What they are checking: Whether they understand integrations well enough to trace a failure through logs, queues and interfaces.

How do you write a SQL query to find records that exist in one table but are missing in another?

What they are checking: Whether they have practical SQL skills for the data checks that support work demands every day.

How do you document a fix so the next person who sees the same issue can solve it without you?

What they are checking: Whether they build shared knowledge that reduces repeat tickets instead of keeping fixes in their head.
