Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a research project where your pathology input changed the direction of the work.

What they are checking: Whether they collaborate actively with scientists rather than only signing out cases.

Tell me about a time you disagreed with a colleague's read. How did you resolve it?

What they are checking: Whether they handle diagnostic disagreement professionally and in the patient's interest.

What would you do

How would you help validate an AI algorithm or digital pathology workflow that's meant to assist your reads?

What they are checking: Whether they can contribute pathologist judgment to AI projects while staying critical about failure modes.

You have a stack of cases and a turnaround target, and one case needs much more time than the rest. How do you manage that?

What they are checking: Whether they balance throughput with taking the time a hard case truly needs.

How do you see the value of large curated cohorts, like the Tempus Molecular Ontology, for your day-to-day work?

What they are checking: Whether they connect individual case review to the larger data mission of the company.

About the work

When you review an H&E slide for NGS adequacy, what are you looking for and when do you reject a specimen?

What they are checking: Whether they understand tumor content, necrosis and tissue amount as they affect sequencing, not just diagnosis.

How do you approach PD-L1 scoring with clones other than 22C3, and what makes those cases tricky?

What they are checking: Whether they know clone-specific scoring rules and how mixing them up can change a treatment decision.

Walk me through a challenging mismatch repair IHC case, such as subclonal or patchy loss. How do you sign it out?

What they are checking: Whether they handle ambiguous MMR staining carefully and know when to recommend reflex molecular testing.

HER2-low has become important for antibody drug conjugates. How do you keep your scoring consistent at the low end?

What they are checking: Whether they appreciate how small scoring differences now change therapy eligibility.

How do you support a lab director in staying on top of proficiency testing and CAP checklist requirements?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the compliance work that sits behind clinical sign-out.
