Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Patients come to biopsy frightened of what it will show. How do you talk to someone in that position?

What they are checking: Whether they can speak calmly and kindly to frightened patients, because people often arrive for a biopsy fearing a serious diagnosis.

Tell me about a time you identified a change in a patient's condition and escalated care.

What they are checking: Whether they notice changes in a patient's condition and act decisively, because quick escalation prevents small problems from becoming emergencies.

What would you do

A patient on a blood thinner arrives for a biopsy and nobody has stopped it. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they would stop and delay a biopsy when a blood thinner was not held, because proceeding anyway risks serious bleeding.

The job spans inpatient, outpatient and procedural settings, including inpatient rounding. How do you keep a full procedure list moving while carrying inpatient responsibilities?

What they are checking: Whether they can balance procedure lists with inpatient rounding, because the role spans several settings and both demand timely attention.

You order and interpret laboratory studies and imaging within your scope. Where does your scope end and the radiologist's judgment begin?

What they are checking: Whether they clearly understand the boundary between their scope and the radiologist's judgment, because collaboration depends on knowing who decides what.

This is a department with more than eighty faculty and a large advanced practice team. What do you want to know about supervision, case mix and how your schedule is built before you'd say yes?

What they are checking: Whether they ask the questions that determine if the job is workable

About the work

This is an advanced practice provider role in Radiology focused on biopsy. Which image-guided procedures have you been credentialed and privileged to perform?

What they are checking: Whether they hold specific credentials for image-guided procedures, because general advanced practice experience does not transfer directly to biopsy work.

Walk me through how you consent a patient for an image-guided biopsy.

What they are checking: Whether they explain risks clearly and confirm the patient truly understands, because informed consent requires more than a signature on a form.

How do you handle bleeding after a biopsy, and what's your threshold for escalating?

What they are checking: Whether they recognize and manage bleeding after a biopsy and know when to escalate, because bleeding is the main complication in this work.

The posting asks you to take part in developing clinical protocols and in quality improvement work. What would you want to look at first here?

What they are checking: Whether they think beyond their own case list toward protocols and quality improvement, because the posting expects them to help improve the service.
