Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This role covers general dermatology, Mohs surgery support and the dermatology transplant program. Which of those three are you strongest in, and where would you need to grow?

What they are checking: Whether they can honestly map their experience against a split role instead of claiming strength everywhere.

Tell me about a time a patient wasn't following a treatment plan, like isotretinoin requirements or a topical regimen. What did you do?

What they are checking: Whether they look for the reason behind nonadherence instead of just repeating instructions.

Describe a time you had to check with a physician about something outside your comfort zone.

What they are checking: Whether they know when to ask for help and do it without delay or embarrassment.

This is an academic department. What interest do you have in teaching, research or quality projects?

What they are checking: Whether they want to contribute beyond seeing patients in a department that values teaching and research.

What would you do

A biopsy comes back as melanoma. How do you tell the patient, and what do you set in motion next?

What they are checking: Whether they can deliver hard news clearly and kindly while making sure follow-up actually happens.

How do you keep from falling behind when a clinic day is fully booked and add-ons keep coming?

What they are checking: Whether they can manage a high-volume outpatient schedule without cutting corners on exams or notes.

About the work

Walk me through how you examine a pigmented lesion and decide whether to biopsy it.

What they are checking: Whether they use a structured approach to melanoma risk instead of relying on a quick look.

Solid organ transplant patients get skin cancers at much higher rates. How would you set up surveillance visits for a kidney transplant recipient on immunosuppression?

What they are checking: Whether they understand why transplant patients need tighter screening and closer coordination with the transplant team.

What is your role in a Mohs day, from pre-op through closure and patient instructions?

What they are checking: How well they know the Mohs workflow and what help the surgeon actually needs from an APP.

Which procedures are you credentialed or comfortable doing on your own, like shave and punch biopsies, excisions or cryotherapy?

What they are checking: Their real hands-on skill level, which shapes how independently they can run a clinic.

How do you make sure biopsy and pathology results never fall through the cracks?

What they are checking: Whether they own result follow-up, since a missed path report is one of the biggest safety risks in dermatology.
