Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

How do you talk to a young adult about treatment risks without either frightening them or understating what is ahead?

What they are checking: Communication judgment in the hardest conversation this job holds.

The posting asks you to weigh benefit against burden, safety, quality and cost-effectiveness. Tell me about a case where those pulled in different directions.

What they are checking: Real clinical tradeoff reasoning, which the posting names explicitly.

How do you keep current on treatment changes in hematology and oncology, where standards move quickly?

What they are checking: Continuing education habits, which matter in a field that changes yearly.

This asks for Illinois licensure, credentialing through the medical staff office before your start date, and a controlled substance licence and federal registration once licensed. Where are you on those, and what is your timeline?

What they are checking: That they read the credentialing requirements and can speak concretely about them.

What would you do

You would perform bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures and administration of intrathecal chemotherapy. Walk me through how you prepare a nervous patient for their first bone marrow biopsy.

What they are checking: Procedural skill and bedside manner together, both named in the posting.

A patient in this age group is missing appointments. How do you find out what is going on?

What they are checking: Curiosity about barriers specific to young adults rather than labeling nonadherence.

You would answer patient phone calls, manage refills and follow up on tests between clinic days. How do you triage a full inbox of patient messages?

What they are checking: Clinical triage on the work that happens outside the room.

The role requires a written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician. How do you build a working relationship with a physician you share responsibility with?

What they are checking: The collaborative practice relationship, stated as a working condition.

About the work

This role cares for adolescent and young adult patients aged eighteen to forty in hematology and oncology. What is different about treating a cancer patient in their twenties?

What they are checking: Real understanding of this population — fertility, career, isolation, adherence.

You staff clinics and attend multidisciplinary conferences for your assigned disease area. What do you bring to a tumor board discussion?

What they are checking: Their role on a team where physicians lead the discussion.
