Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

You'd be both a people leader and the technical authority. Tell me about a time you had to do both at once.

What they are checking: Whether they can lead engineers while also making sound technical calls.

Tell me about an engineer you developed. How did you help them grow?

What they are checking: Whether they practice leader-as-teacher and coach people rather than just assigning tasks.

Give me an example of copy-and-improve, where you took a good practice from one area and spread it.

What they are checking: Whether they share what works across teams instead of reinventing solutions.

What would you do

What does stop-and-fix mean to you, and how do you get people to use it under production pressure?

What they are checking: Whether they can protect the habit of stopping for problems even when output targets are tight.

How do you handle an engineer who resists a new standard?

What they are checking: Whether they can listen to concerns while still holding the team to a shared way of working.

How do you decide between a data-driven change and keeping a process stable?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh the cost of change and use evidence before disrupting production.

About the work

How do you use SQDCM metrics to decide where your team should focus?

What they are checking: Whether they use safety, quality, delivery, cost and morale data to set priorities instead of gut feel.

What does manufacturing readiness for a new product look like to you, and how do you know you're there?

What they are checking: Whether they have clear readiness criteria before launch rather than finding gaps on the line.

How do you write standard work that operators actually follow?

What they are checking: Whether they build standards with the floor so they reflect how work is really done.

A process you didn't design keeps producing the same defect. Walk me through how you'd lead the team to fix it.

What they are checking: Whether they use structured root cause methods and fix the source, not the symptom.

How do you make your team's work visible so others can see progress and problems?

What they are checking: Whether they use visual management to keep alignment and expose issues early.
