Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a pediatric nursing policy or protocol you helped revise based on evidence. How did you get it adopted?

What they are checking: Whether they can move evidence into practice and handle the people side of change, not just write documents.

You'll consult with senior leaders across the system. Tell me about a time you influenced a leader without direct authority.

What they are checking: Whether they can build a case and persuade executives in a role that coordinates rather than directs.

Tell me about a time an initiative you led didn't work. What happened and what did you do next?

What they are checking: Whether they are honest about failure and can show what they learned from it.

How do you keep your own pediatric clinical knowledge current in a mostly non-bedside role?

What they are checking: Whether they stay credible with bedside staff by keeping clinical skills and knowledge fresh.

What would you do

Direct-care nurses are tired of new initiatives. How do you get them involved in yet another change?

What they are checking: Whether they can earn buy-in from bedside staff instead of handing changes down from above.

A pediatric unit at one site does something differently than the PICU at another. How do you decide whether to standardize?

What they are checking: Whether they can weigh local reasons against system consistency without forcing a single answer.

A safety event in pediatric critical care points to a gap in a protocol. Walk me through how you'd respond.

What they are checking: Whether they can lead a fair review, fix the process, and support the staff involved.

About the work

How would you use quality and safety data to choose which pediatric critical care problem to work on first?

What they are checking: Whether they can read data, weigh harm and feasibility, and pick a target with a real case.

Tell me the difference between a quality improvement project, an evidence-based practice project and research, and when you'd use each.

What they are checking: Whether they understand the methods and the oversight each one needs, including when IRB review applies.

How would you design continuing education for pediatric nurses across the system?

What they are checking: Whether they can assess learning needs and build education that changes practice, not just checks a box.
