Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a project you worked on where a sustainability goal ran into a schedule or budget problem. How did it get resolved?

What they are checking: Whether they bring real field stories into class, which is the main thing adjunct practitioners offer students.

Tell me about a time you taught or trained someone who was struggling. What did you change in your approach?

What they are checking: Whether they adjust their teaching to the learner instead of blaming the learner for not keeping up.

How do you keep your knowledge of codes, energy standards and green products current?

What they are checking: Whether what they teach will still be accurate, since outdated practice hurts students once they are hired.

What would you do

The course runs about eight and three-quarter hours a week at the Spanbauer Aviation and Industrial Center. How would you plan a class session so working adults stay engaged after a full day on the job?

What they are checking: Whether they plan for tired adult learners with active work instead of long lectures.

How would you adapt a hands-on topic like building envelope performance for a hybrid or online section?

What they are checking: Whether they can keep applied content concrete when students are not in the same room.

A student pushes back and says sustainable construction is mostly marketing. How do you handle that in class?

What they are checking: Whether they can respect skepticism and answer it with evidence and economics rather than lecturing.

About the work

This course is Sustainable Construction Practices. What would your students be able to do on a jobsite at the end of it that they couldn't do on day one?

What they are checking: Whether they think in job-ready outcomes rather than a list of green building topics to cover.

How would you explain the real cost tradeoffs of sustainable materials to a student who thinks green building is just a premium add-on?

What they are checking: Whether they can teach sustainability through budgets, schedules and owner decisions that a working builder actually faces.

How would you teach LEED or similar rating systems so students understand the intent and not just the checklist?

What they are checking: Whether they know the frameworks well enough to explain why each credit exists, not just recite points.

How do you assess whether a student actually understands sustainable practices, beyond a multiple-choice test?

What they are checking: Whether they use applied assessments like estimates, submittal reviews or case problems that mirror real work.

How would you use the results of your assessments to change the course the next time you teach it?

What they are checking: Whether they treat student data as feedback on their own teaching, which the posting asks adjuncts to do.
