Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a patient whose condition changed during treatment. What did you notice first and who did you tell?

What they are checking: Watching vital signs and the patient closely, then escalating to the RN quickly rather than waiting.

How do you keep a 10 to 12 hour shift safe when you're tired near the end?

What they are checking: Honest habits for staying careful through long shifts, since late errors with blood lines are dangerous.

Tell me about a time you helped improve a process at work, even a small one.

What they are checking: The posting ties the role to QAI and process improvement, so they want someone who notices and suggests fixes.

What would you do

You're working under the direction of a charge RN who asks you to do something differently from how you were trained. What do you do?

What they are checking: Taking direction well while still speaking up if an instruction conflicts with policy or safety.

A hospital floor nurse asks you to give a medication through the dialysis line. What do you say?

What they are checking: Knowing the limits of the PCT scope in a hospital where other staff may not know them.

You have three hospital consults on different floors and one machine still needs priming. How do you organize the morning?

What they are checking: Prioritizing work across a hospital in coordination with the RN rather than going wherever the phone rings first.

How do you talk to a patient who's frightened because it's their first dialysis treatment and they're in a hospital bed?

What they are checking: Calm bedside communication with patients who often start dialysis during a hospital crisis.

About the work

This is an acute hospital role, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with shifts starting by 7am. How is acute dialysis different from what you've done in an outpatient clinic?

What they are checking: Whether they understand sicker, less stable patients, bedside setups and hospital workflows that the posting prefers experience in.

Walk me through how you set up and disinfect a machine before the first treatment of the day.

What they are checking: Infection control discipline and setup accuracy, which the posting says you'll arrive early specifically to do.

What do you check on a patient's access before cannulating, and what would make you stop?

What they are checking: Safe vascular access assessment, including signs of infection, clotting or infiltration risk.
