Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about the most difficult electrical problem you've solved in a plant.

What they are checking: Whether they have real depth and can explain their reasoning clearly, which shows how they work.

Tell me about a time you mentored someone less experienced on the electrical side.

What they are checking: Whether they share knowledge, which is expected of an experienced colleague on the maintenance team.

What would you do

This is a third shift role in Milwaukee. How do you handle electrical problems when engineering and management have gone home?

What they are checking: Whether they can make safe, independent calls on nights, since a senior electrician is often the top technical person on site.

A junior tech wants to reset a breaker that keeps tripping so production can run. What do you tell them?

What they are checking: Whether they teach finding the cause first, because repeated resets can start a fire or damage equipment.

You finish a repair at 6:30 AM and day shift is arriving. How do you hand it off?

What they are checking: Whether they document and communicate clearly so the next shift knows what was fixed and what to watch.

About the work

Walk me through how you troubleshoot a three-phase motor that keeps tripping.

What they are checking: Whether they check supply, overloads, insulation, and mechanical load in a logical order.

How comfortable are you troubleshooting PLCs and VFDs, and which brands have you worked on?

What they are checking: Whether they can handle the controls that run modern lines, not just wiring and motors.

What are your rules for when you will and won't work on energized equipment?

What they are checking: Whether they follow NFPA 70E practices and treat energized work as the exception with proper PPE and permits.

How do you read and update electrical prints when a machine has been modified over the years?

What they are checking: Whether they keep drawings accurate, since outdated prints mislead the next person troubleshooting.

What preventive electrical maintenance do you think matters most in a manufacturing plant?

What they are checking: Whether they value things like thermography, connection checks, and motor testing that prevent failures.
