Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

The role asks you to translate complex financial data into insights for commercial, research and operations decisions. Tell me about explaining a financial analysis to someone who is not a finance person.

What they are checking: Communication, which is what this program is really selecting for.

Tell me about a time your analysis pointed to an answer the people who asked for it did not want.

What they are checking: Independence, which matters more in a leadership pipeline than technical skill.

What do you want to learn here that your program cannot teach you?

What they are checking: Clear purpose rather than a generic interest in the brand.

This is a 2027 program for MBA students in North Chicago, posted well ahead of the summer alongside AbbVie's other early recruiting. Where do you see yourself in the finance organization afterwards?

What they are checking: That they treat this as an entry to a career track, which is what an accelerator program is.

What would you do

You would do variance analysis and scenario planning. How do you decide which scenarios are worth modeling?

What they are checking: Judgment about which uncertainties matter.

This is a summer assignment with a limited window. How would you make sure your project actually gets used after you leave?

What they are checking: Thinking about handover, which distinguishes a serious intern.

About the work

This internship supports the annual operating plan, forecasting and monthly performance reporting. What do you understand about how a large company's planning cycle actually works?

What they are checking: Whether their MBA coursework has connected to real corporate planning.

You would analyze sales trends, pricing and gross margin across therapeutic areas. What drives gross margin in pharmaceuticals specifically?

What they are checking: Industry-specific understanding rather than general finance.

Walk me through how you would build a business case for a pipeline investment that will not generate revenue for years.

What they are checking: Long-horizon valuation reasoning, which is the defining challenge here.

You would prepare presentations and recommendations for senior leadership review. How do you build a slide that a senior leader can act on?

What they are checking: Executive communication discipline.
