Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This program prepares you for field roles supporting Cat dealers and customers. What do you think a typical week in a field role looks like?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that field work means travel, time with dealers and solving problems on site.

Tell me about a time you had to build trust with someone who did not want to listen to you at first.

What they are checking: Whether they can earn credibility with experienced dealer staff who may be older and more knowledgeable.

How comfortable are you with frequent travel and possible relocation? Tell me what you know about yourself on that.

What they are checking: Whether they have honestly thought about the lifestyle of a field-based role before accepting it.

Tell me about a time you used data to change someone's mind.

What they are checking: Whether they can turn numbers into a persuasive case, which field reps use with dealers all the time.

Tell me about a goal you set for yourself that you did not hit. What happened?

What they are checking: Whether they own results and learn from misses, since field roles carry sales and service targets.

What would you do

A dealer says a new Cat product is not selling in their territory. How would you find out why?

What they are checking: Whether they ask questions and look at data before offering a solution.

A customer is angry about machine downtime and blames the dealer. The dealer blames Caterpillar. You are in the middle. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can stay calm and focus on fixing the customer's problem rather than assigning blame.

How would you learn enough about Cat machines to have a real conversation with a construction contractor?

What they are checking: Whether they have a plan to learn the products quickly and respect the customer's expertise.

About the work

What is the relationship between Caterpillar and its independent dealers, as you understand it?

What they are checking: Whether they know that dealers are separate businesses that Caterpillar must influence rather than control.

What does good customer success look like to you in an industry like heavy equipment?

What they are checking: Whether they connect customer success to uptime, parts and service support, not just the first sale.
