Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

The programme rotates through Commercial, Operations, R&D and Corporate finance. Which draws you most, and why?

What they are checking: The posting names all four, and a considered preference shows they read it.

Tell me about starting somewhere new and getting up to speed quickly.

What they are checking: Rotational programmes are a sequence of new starts, which is their real difficulty.

This is based at North Chicago. Does that work for you?

What they are checking: Honest fit with the location, which for a graduate programme decides a lot.

Tell me about a time you had to work with people much more senior than you.

What they are checking: The posting promises exposure to different leaders, which is only useful if they can use it.

Where do you want to be when the programme ends?

What they are checking: The programme exists to produce finance leaders, so a plan is fair to expect.

What would you do

How would you explain a variance in a forecast to someone who is not in finance?

What they are checking: The posting frames finance as a trusted advisor influencing the business.

You find a mistake in work that has already gone out. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they report it immediately, which matters more in accounting than anywhere.

About the work

What do you understand financial planning and analysis to actually involve day to day?

What they are checking: FP&A is named as a rotation and is the one students most often misunderstand.

Tell me about analyzing a set of financial data and what you concluded from it.

What they are checking: Analytical work described through a real example, however small.

What do you know about what a pharmaceutical company's finance function has to worry about?

What they are checking: Whether they prepared for this industry rather than for finance in general.
